There is no denying we live in a digital world. Technology is literally at our fingertips for a good part of our day. So I can understand why people would use that to their advantage by using a planner on their phone. I even gave it a try for a while at one point, but I am just a pen and paper kind of girl. Like most things, there are pros and cons to both choices. The key is to find what works for you and stick with it.
Since I am pro paper, I wanted to share this post for anyone looking to add a planner into their daily routine. As I said before, I can see the appeal to using your phone or computer as a planner. But after trying both ways for quite a while, I can say paper planners are the only way for me.
I swear I remember things better when I write them out by hand.
I don’t know what it is, but if I write something down, I am way more likely to remember it. Maybe this isn’t the case for everyone but I can tell you for me, it works, so I’m not going to stop now.
I spend enough time on electronics.
(In my opinion.) Because my job and my blog are both online I spend more hours a day on my computer than I would like to admit. But let’s be honest, between television, tablets, phones, and computers we all spend quite a bit of time on screen. So to me, it sort of feels like a little break when I’m using my bullet journal.
I find it very therapeutic.
Like I just mentioned, it sort of like a little “me time.” While that may sound silly to some people, I really feel like it’s sort of calming to set down and write things out by hand. (Ironic isn’t it, that I’m typing this!) Not only do I like writing things out, but decorating the pages makes me strangely happy.
It reminds me of being a kid.
My best friend and I used to spend so much time pretending we were important people like teachers or lawyers. It didn’t matter what we did we just always ended up with a pen and paper. So now as I’m planning content for my blog or planning my week I get little flashbacks of being ten again.
This one I feel like a lot of people will understand because there are whole communities of people that are obsessed with office supplies. I wouldn’t consider myself obsessed but I am very very fond of them that is for sure. I am constantly picking up new post-it notes or pens anywhere I find them. Honestly, even when I wasn’t using a bullet journal, I still bought office supplies often!
There are tons of other little things that I love about keeping a paper planner but these are the main reasons I prefer a paper planner to an electronic one. I hope this post can help in your decision to start journaling or at least gives you an idea of why I love it so much.
